The Village hall or Marcham Hall is home of the clerks office, Engineer and Police Department as well as the location for all important meetings such as when the governing board meets. For those of us who are fortunate to work from the hall on a daily basis already appreciate its beauty and historic quality, but it is nice to see some attention from someone outside the Village. Recently our Village Historian, Bea Szekeley, was asked to assist a graduate student with a history project. Tamara Pilson was interested in writing a Historic Structure Report on Marcham Hall for one of her classes. The two of them spent several hours carefully going over the building which was once the home of Dorothy Cornell.
Ms. Pilson’s purpose was to identify the hall as a notable historic property, evaluate its significance and potential for proposal to a local, state, or national register of historic properties, evaluate its physical appearance and condition, and propose a financially feasible set of treatments that respect the historic integrity of the property while ensuring its long-term preservation and stability as noted in her report.
Bea was very pleased with the finished product, praising Ms. Pilson on her detailed and extensive description of the Historic building, saying that it is a first! The entire report can be found at this LINK.
